A Danger to Herself and Others is a great mystery with a lot of twists that will have readers hooked until the very end.

Mollie accidentally lets a compliment slip out of her mouth about her baby brother Thomas. Next thing she knows her sweet baby brother is gone and a changeling is left in its place that screams and cries and scratches. The family calls the changeling Guest, knowing that it will never belong in their home. After months pass, Mollie decides she needs to return Guest and plead with the Kinde Folke to switch back. But when Mike comes over for dinner, Bryan realizes how much they have in common. They both love comics and drawing. After hanging out together, they become like brothers. But then Mike starts trying to convince Bryan to do things that are dangerous or irresponsible like ditch school halfway through the day or jumping on the back of a subway train and riding it until it stops again. Suddenly Bryan is not sure if hanging with Mike is the best thing for him, and he needs to decide what he is going to do. Six years pass and life is very dull in the Compound, but at least they are still alive. Eli's father was very careful when he planned out how much food they are going to need, but they unexpectedly start to experience food shortages. With a ruined world and unsafe air, they are not able to leave the Compound, so they have to get creative with how they are going to survive. But when Eli starts to make some strange discoveries, he realizes that there is something much bigger going on than he thought.
