But some people think that the way Benny died was no accident, and when Calvin goes missing, suspicion falls on Mason. The Truth As Told By Mason Buttle is a fantastic story about Mason, a boy you can't help but love. Fans of Freak The Mighty will enjoy this beautiful story about friendship.

Instead of sending Rafi, though, Frey goes in her place and Rafi hides away. Then the girls' father proves just how much he doesn't care about Frey and suddenly their lives will never be the same. Impostors takes place in The Uglies universe at the end of the series. It is a very interesting book that doesn't require knowledge of the previous series. Author: Mike Lupica

Charlie is so good at what he does because he is so observant and is able to make really great calls, even if he isn't the best player on the team. Charlie has started to make a name for himself when a radio host talks about him and his fantasy football picks. Then the owner of the LA Bulldogs, a professional football team, takes Charlie's advice and signs a new player for his team. The LA Bulldogs have been terrible season after season, and Charlie thinks that this new player can turn things around. When it becomes public that the coach took advice for his professional team from a middle schooler, suddenly the whole world is watching Charlie, and the stakes are higher than ever. All people are put into different castes. Ones are royalty. Twos and Threes belong to the upper class. The caste system goes all the way until Eight, the homeless. You are born into your caste, and it was very hard to move out of it. Women can marry up and enter into another caste, but it is very rare for them to accept a marriage offer from someone in a lower caste, which would result in them moving down to that caste. America is a Five. There is never enough food for her family, but she knows that she has it better than others. She is also keeping a secret. She has a secret boyfriend who is a Six. If anyone found out, the relationship would be over. There is no way that her parents would approve of her marrying someone from a lower caste. Whenever it is time for the Prince of Illea to get married, they hold a contest called the Selection. Any female from any caste is welcome to apply. Only 35 are chosen, and they are brought to live at the castle while the Prince gets to know them. He eliminates any he knows he doesn't want to marry until the very last one who will become his wife. It is about time for Prince Maxon to get married, so a Selection is needed. America, who doesn't even want to apply, puts her name in thinking that nothing will come of it. When her name is drawn, she must enter the Selection. Her heart lies elsewhere, so she doesn't think it's a big deal. She'll just accept the money they give her for being part of the competition for as long as Prince Maxon will keep her there. But then she gets to know Prince Maxon, and suddenly her heart doesn't really know what it wants. Fantastic romance with a dystopian twist! Author: Cat Clarke

There is a strict dress code at the middle school he goes to. All girls must wear skirts. The problem? Liv doesn't want to wear a skirt (not to mention the fact that he's a boy so he shouldn't have to anyway). Every morning, Liv cringes as he gets dressed and has to put on something that makes him extremely unhappy. Not only is Liv dealing with this every day, he also is being bullied big time by a mean girl at school for the way he looks, and his best friend in the world has ditched him for the mean girl. Liv decides to talk to the principal about the sexist dress code to try to get it changed. When the principal says that the rules can't be changed, Liv decides he needs to take a stand. The Pants Project is sweet and real and hard and amazing. I love Liv, and my heart hurts for all those struggling with the bullying and the secrets they feel like they can't share with others. Not only is Makani dealing with the fear from the murders, she is also keeping a secret about her past. Luckily Ollie, a strange boy with pink hair, is there to comfort her. But some people suspect Ollie of being the murderer. Makani knows that it's ridiculous, but who could it be? In this small of a town, everybody is a suspect. There's Someone Inside Your House is a good book for readers who do not mind being scared. The idea of someone actually being in your house without you knowing and moving things around is terrifying to me. I couldn't put this book down! Author: Emma Berquist

Shakes lose all sense of self and attack people before the sickness eventually kills them. It is easy to become infected, so the best thing to do is avoid shakes at all cost. Willie is the caretaker of her three younger siblings ever since their mom died of the sickness and their dad abandoned them. When her dad steals money from someone, some men come after Willie and tell her she needs to get the money back or they will harm her family. Willie needs to chase down her dad who has gone to another town, crossing a dangerous desert filled with shakes. With the help of two hunters, Willie sets out to find her father and bring him home. But the road is much more dangerous than she thought. Will she even be able to return herself? Devils Unto Dust kept me fascinated until the very end. I loved the pace of this book. Published: 2018 Wes is a great basketball player. He plays to make the team look good, not to make himself look good. Dinero, a boy on Wes' basketball team, does not hold the same philosophy. Dinero plays to make himself look good, even if that means the team suffers--he wants to make as many points by himself as possible. But that doesn't work out well in a team sport. Wes' dad taught Wes how to be a team player. But right now, his dad has moved out and never comes around. Ever since Wes' dad got back from the war Afghanistan, he has been different. He keeps to himself, he limps, and he drinks far too much. When the drinking became a problem, he moved out of their house and pretty much out of their lives. Wes is having a really hard time dealing with the absence of his father. When the troubles on the basketball court become too much, Wes can't even turn to his father. No Slam Dunk is a great book about what it means to be a team. The PTSD Wes' dad is suffering from is a very relevant issue kids may be able to relate with. Author: Stuart Gibbs

The base they are staying at is tiny, there's not that many other kids, and the food is gross. One night on a trip to the bathroom, Dash hears a voice. It's one of the scientists, Dr. Holtz. He's talking excitedly about something he is going to reveal to everyone in the morning--one of the most important discoveries in human history. The next morning, Dr. Holtz is found dead. Everyone assumes his death was accidental, but Dash fears that he was murdered because of his discovery. When no one else believes him other than another kid on the base named Kira, Dash decides he and Kira need to solve this on their own. Space Case is a great science fiction-mystery blend. Fans of Gordon Korman will enjoy Stuart Gibbs' writing. |
