Published: 2020 Luka is a prisoner in the Loop. The truth is he didn't commit the crime he is accused of, but that doesn't matter to anyone. He has to endure the torture called the harvest every single night. Every day is exactly the same, and there is no chance of escape. All inmates in the Loop are sentenced to death. They can choose to put off their death sentence if they agree to participate in something called a Delay. Delays are experiments performed on prisoners, and sometimes the outcome is deadly. At the beginning of the book, all prisoners are given the option to participate in a Delay (and of course they agree because their other option is death). They are all split up into 2 groups, A and B. Luka is in Group B. Group A goes first and the results of the experiment are absolutely horrifying. When it's Group B's turn, the results are very different. Suddenly after the Delay, the prisoners in the Loop discover that they have been abandoned. No one is coming to make sure they are fed and taken care of. They need to figure out how to escape in order to survive. But they also discover that leaving might be more dangerous than staying inside the Loop. The Loop is a fantastic science fiction thriller. Fans of The Maze Runner and The Hunger Games will love this book (and the sequel is coming)!

Published: 2020 Let me just start by saying that this is probably one of my favorite graphic novels that I have ever read. Snapdragon has heard of the witch in her town who eats roadkill and uses their bones to cast spells. Snap doesn't believe in witches, but when her dog goes missing she has to see if the rumors are true. When she gets there what she finds is this old woman named Jacks who is really good with animals (who did rescue Snap's hurt dog and had him there). When Snap discovers a bunch of baby possums whose mom died, she brings them to Jacks and then comes over every day to help take care of them. Snapdragon soon discovers there is more to Jacks than meets the eye. And somehow they may have more in common than she thought. Snapdragon is a fantastic story about a spunky, strong girl who doesn't care to fit in with others. This book is inclusive and funny and smart. The first thing I wanted to do after reading it was start it all over again. Author: Nic Stone
Published: 2017 Justyce is going places. He is a great kid at the top of his class and has high hopes to go to Yale after graduation. Suddenly, the only thing that matters about him is the fact that he is Black when a police officer stops him. He is put in handcuffs for hours, and the police officer won't listen to anything he has to say. After this traumatic experience, Justyce decides he is going to start writing letters in a journal to Martin Luther King Jr. to help him process what happened to him and what has happened to other Black people in society. He always thought he was safe because he dressed right, he was at the top of his class, he never caused problems. And even with all that, he still was treated like a criminal and was scared for his life for no reason other than the color of his skin. When Justyce and his friend take a drive one day, suddenly their lives are changed forever. Dear Martin is a powerful book that is extremely relevant today. Everyone should read this book and reflect on their own biases to make themselves better, not only for the Justyces of the world but for all our children's futures, that they may be better and do better too.
