Every night Dr. Moran leaves the bunker in a hazmat suit to see if the world is okay for them to live in again, and every time she returns with the same answer. Sash and two other kids her age, Gabe and Yuna, decide to go exploring one day and what they discover changes their whole world as they know it. The Buried is great for fans of science fiction and dystopian books.

While some people do still live on the polluted land, there are eco-cities built up in the sky for people who have been known to help the planet to live in. These people are expected to spend a certain percentage of their lives virtually in order to reduce the amount of energy they are using. This story is told from two perspectives: Cee and Kasey's. Cee woke up on a completely abandoned island three years ago. She has no memory of her life before or how she ended up on the island. All she knows is that she has a sister somewhere and she must escape the island to try to find her. Every day she works on figuring out a way to leave the island. Kasey used to be a science genius, but ever since she got in trouble for doing something she wasn't supposed to, she is no longer allowed to practice science. She spends a lot of her time trying to find her sister. It has been months since Celia went missing. In her search for her sister, Kasey discovers secrets she was never meant to uncover about her family and the world. The Ones We're Meant to Find is a horrifying look at a future where humans have ruined the world. This was a fantastic dystopian read filled with twists and awesome connections. Author: Adam Silvera

You receive a phonecall from Death-Cast telling you it's your last day to live, but you get no details on how you are going to die. Mateo Torrez gets his phonecall, and he doesn't really know what he wants to do with his last day. His father is in a coma, and he is kind of scared to leave the house. Rufus knows what he wants to do on his last day--he wants to have a funeral for himself where he can spend time with all the special people in his life. But things don't go according to plan, and Rufus finds himself all alone. Mateo and Rufus go to a website called Last Friend where people who are dying can reach out to others and find someone to spend the day with. Mateo and Rufus decide to meet up and spend their last day together. They Both Die at the End is a tragic and amazing story. What would you do with your day if you knew that it was your last? Published: 2019 Hetty is living at the Raxter School for Girls, a boarding school on an island that was put under quarantine a year and a half ago when the girls started getting sick with something they call the Tox. No one knows what exactly is causing it, and the symptoms of the sickness are a fever followed by something really, really strange and painfuyl. For example, one girl grew another spine, and another girl's hand grew scales. Many end up dying from the Tox. The animals on the island have become infected to and are now more dangerous than ever. The government sends supplies to the girls but not everyone is allowed to go outside of the gates of the school. Hetty is picked to go help with food pick-up and while she's there she discovers that the people at the school are hiding something. When her best friend gets a fever and then disappears, Hetty decides she needs to go find her and uncover what is really happening at this school. Wilder Girls is a dystopian story! Katrina and Parker team up to try to rescue her parents and figure out the dark secrets that her family is keeping from her. Who is after them and why? Why would her parents lie to her? What really happened three years ago when she lost her memory. Concealed is a fantastic story for mystery and adventure lovers. There are twists and surprises at every turn! Author: Marie Lu
Published: 2017 Emika Chen is a bounty hunter, someone who tracks down and brings in criminals who illegally gamble on Warcross, a virtual reality game that almost everyone in the world plays. She is on her own and in a huge amount of debt. Chasing down criminals the police don't have time to catch is the quickest way for her to earn enough money to survive day-to-day. It helps that she is an excellent hacker, so she is able to find out information about these criminals that helps lead her to them. Every year there is a huge Warcross tournament where the best of the best players are brought together to compete, and the whole world tunes in to watch. During the opening ceremony, Emika is watching and sees an opportunity to earn some money. She accidentally glitches herself into the game and everyone in the world sees her. Worried she is going to be arrested, she is very surprised when the creator of the game, 21-year-old Hideo Tanaka, wants to hire her to spy on people in the Warcross tournament. Suddenly she is a member of one of the teams in the tournament, and she is trying to figure out who keeps breaking into the Warcross games and altering things. But she soon realizes that there might be something much darker happening. Warcross is a fantastic science fiction novel that video game lovers will absolutely find thrilling. Published: 2020 Luka is a prisoner in the Loop. The truth is he didn't commit the crime he is accused of, but that doesn't matter to anyone. He has to endure the torture called the harvest every single night. Every day is exactly the same, and there is no chance of escape. All inmates in the Loop are sentenced to death. They can choose to put off their death sentence if they agree to participate in something called a Delay. Delays are experiments performed on prisoners, and sometimes the outcome is deadly. At the beginning of the book, all prisoners are given the option to participate in a Delay (and of course they agree because their other option is death). They are all split up into 2 groups, A and B. Luka is in Group B. Group A goes first and the results of the experiment are absolutely horrifying. When it's Group B's turn, the results are very different. Suddenly after the Delay, the prisoners in the Loop discover that they have been abandoned. No one is coming to make sure they are fed and taken care of. They need to figure out how to escape in order to survive. But they also discover that leaving might be more dangerous than staying inside the Loop. The Loop is a fantastic science fiction thriller. Fans of The Maze Runner and The Hunger Games will love this book (and the sequel is coming)! Author: Ibi Zoboi

Ebony-Grace and her grandfather have a very close relationship, and they are both absolutely obsessed with space and with things like Star Trek. They have their inside secrets and secret space games they play with each other that no one else understands. The summer of 1984, Ebony-Grace is traveling from her home in Alabama to live with her father in New York for a few weeks. Her grandfather is dealing with some issues, and her mom thinks it is best for her to spend some time away. No one tells Ebony-Grace what is happening with her grandfather. She shows up at her dad's house ready to play space games in her and her grandfather's imaginary world they have created, but no one else understands. They look at Ebony-Grace like she is completely weird and talking nonsense. No one understands her. All she wants to do is talk to her grandfather, but she never can reach him. My Life as an Ice Cream Sandwich is a good book for fans of science fiction or for readers who feel like outsiders. Author: Melissa Grey

The lower the rating, the less value society places upon you. At Maplethorpe Academy, ratings are everything. Students are punished for bad grades or misbehavior by having numbers from their rating taken away. One student has one of the highest ratings at the school--92. She feels this constant pressure to keep her rating up that high. Another student has a sick sister. When his father loses his job, his ratings fall, so she is kicked out of her nice hospital. When someone vandalizes the school and spray paints the words "The ratings are not real," six students suddenly find their stories intertwining. Where did the ratings come from? What purpose do they serve? Rated is a great dystopian/science fiction story that will have readers hooked until the very end! Author: Scott Westerfeld

In a pact with another powerful family, Rafi's father agrees to give Rafi up as a hostage to ensure that he won't break the deal they made with each other. Instead of sending Rafi, though, Frey goes in her place and Rafi hides away. Then the girls' father proves just how much he doesn't care about Frey and suddenly their lives will never be the same. Impostors takes place in The Uglies universe at the end of the series. It is a very interesting book that doesn't require knowledge of the previous series. |
