He is going to lie to his family so they think he is spending the day with Phoebe when really he is going to go to the airport and get on a plane to Singapore to visit his dad all by himself. He brings his journal along with him to document the experience. But not everything goes to plan, especially when he sees a classmate at the airport. Suddenly secrets start to come out about Henry and his friendships and his school. Fly on the Wall is a good story for those who like reading about funny adventures!

Red Panda and Moon Bear are siblings who also happen to be super heroes who look for danger and evil and try to save their community. At the beginning of this graphic novel, Red Panda and Moon Bear discover two evil, alien monsters who have taken the form of Earth dogs. Oh wait, maybe they're just dogs who need a home. They try to solve many mysteries, including why children in their community are all having these terrible nightmares, why there is a ghost haunting the library, and many more mysteries that bring them on amazing adventures. What if his teacher is an alien? And, to make things even worse, their new neighbor doesn't like them. They overhear her talking on the phone to someone and complaining about the Muslims next door. Luckily when Omar goes to school, he quickly makes friends with a boy named Charlie. Unfortunately, a kid named Daniel seems out to get them both and tries to make their lives miserable. He even says that Omar and his family should go back to their own country before they get kicked out. This makes Omar really nervous. Planet Omar: Accidental Trouble Magnet is about a boy who has a fantastic and funny imagination. It also deals with issues such as bullying and prejudice. Yumi is too shy to correct them, so she stays for the day participating in the workshop like she was Kay. But then she comes back the next day and the next without telling anyone there who she really is and keeping it a secret from her parents. As time goes on, Yumi is worried that her secret will come out and she will betray the trust of a lot of different people. But what is her other option? Give up comedy? Stand Up, Yumi Chung is a fantastic middle grade novel about a hilarious and shy girl who knows what she wants and just needs to believe in herself and figure out how to get there. If this person finds the Undiscovered Genie jar and releases the genie, the world is going to end. Ace goes on this quest with Ridge to try to save the world, accepting some strange consequences after each wish; however, Ace is keeping a secret of his own that might change everything. Published: 2019 Jingwen and his mom and brother, Yanghao, just moved to Australia after the death of the boys' father. Life in Australia is difficult, especially because Jingwen is having a hard time learning English. His mom and brother are having no problems picking it up, but Jingwen feels like he's on Mars with a bunch of people speaking an alien language. The boys' father planned to open up a bakery called Pie in they Sky that would sell beautiful and fancy cakes; however, he passed away before he could achieve this dream. Jingwen and Yanghao's mom works the evening/night shift. The boys have decided that they are going to make all the cakes their father was going to sell at Pie in the Sky. There's one big problem--their mom has forbidden them from using the oven when she's gone. Pie in the Sky is a heartwarming book about a family that experienced a terrible heartbreak. The relationship the boys have with each other is going to be very relatable to those who have siblings of their own. This book has you laughing one minute and heartbroken the next. Fantastic read written in the style of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Author: Kate Klise

When he gets to 43 Old Cemetery Road, he discovers that he didn't pay any attention to the rental agreement he signed. When he signed the agreement, he agreed to care for a boy named Seymour and his cat who live in the house. Ignatius soon learns that Seymour and his cat aren't the only ones living at 43 Old Cemetery Road, there's also a ghost named Olive. Dying to Meet You is written entirely in letters, newspaper clippings, drawings, and other documents that come together to create a funny paranormal read. Author: Dusti Bowling
Published: 2018 Gus lives with his grandma in Nowhere, Arizona. Everyone in town is extremely poor, and there's not a lot of hope for the future of anyone who grows up there. The book starts with Gus being bullied by a mean boy named Bo. Bo is trying to get Gus to eat a jumping cholla cactus, a cactus known for being extremely dangerous and sharp. When Rossi, the best dirt bike rider in town, stands up for Gus, she is forced to give her most prized possession, her dirt bike, to Bo in order to save him. Gus feels terrible. Bo says that the only way he will give the dirt bike back to Rossi is if Gus goes into the Dead Frenchman Mine and finds a piece of gold. This mine is old and extremely dangerous. People have died in there when portions of it collapsed in on them. Gus decides that he needs to do this. With the help of Rossi and some other boys Gus sets out on this dangerous adventure. 24 Hours in Nowhere takes place within the span of twenty-four hours. Gus is such a relatable character to anyone who ever feels like they don't fit in. There is a lightness to this book that I really enjoyed, especially with all the tough and dark topics that are mentioned. Author: Andrew Clements
Published: 2014 Alton is obsessed with maps. He spends his free time drawing them. He doesn't just draw regular old maps. Instead, he draws unique maps. Like the map of his teacher's brain or a map that contains all the times the principal says "um" during the announcements. Or a map that displays how many students' parents have gotten divorced. Or a map that shows the tallest to the smallest students in the school. He keeps these maps to himself, but then he shows him to Quint, a boy that Alton thinks could become a good friend. Shortly after he shows them to Quint, the maps go missing. He then gets an anonymous note in his cubby stating that the person who stole the maps will expose them to the entire school unless Alton does what they say. Alton needs to get these maps back ASAP. With the help of his new friend Quint, Alton thinks it may be possible. The Map Trap is a quick read that fits in the humor and mystery genres. It is an enjoyable, light book. |
