Published: 2009 Eric is the new kid in school. His very first interaction with the kids in his new seventh grade class is when a boy named David runs by Eric, dripping in ketchup and looking terrified. Soon after, a small group of kids come through and ask Eric if he saw someone run by before them. Eric soon comes to find out that David is bullied by Griffin and his friends. Soon Griffin starts including Eric in the friend group. Eric soon finds out the kind of person Griffin is, and he needs to decide if he is going to stand up for the people Eric bullies or not because if he does, he may become the next victim. This is a great book about what bullying looks like from the point-of-view of the bystanders.

Published: 2018 Jerome is a black twelve-year-old who is shot by a police officer when he mistakes his toy gun for a real gun. Jerome comes back as a ghost and witnesses the aftermath of the shooting. He sees how devastated his family and friends are. He also sees how the police officer's family is dealing with the shooting, specifically the police officer's daughter, Sarah, who just happens to be able to see Jerome. Jerome meets another ghost named Emmett Till who guides Jerome through what has happened to him. Then Jerome gets to hear Emmett's story. The book is split up into sections that alternate: Dead, which talks about what Jerome is seeing and feeling after he was killed and Alive, which talks about Jerome and the time leading up to his death. This book is a must-read for everyone. This is younger version of All American Boys and The Hate U Give. Absolutely amazing book. |
